AMMAN — The Ministry of Water and Irrigation and Germany's KfW Development Bank on Thursday signed an agreement, under which the bank will provide a soft loan of 48 million euros as part of a water resource management programme.
The programme was designed to serve southern Amman areas with sanitation services and upgrade energy efficiency in water and sanitation facilities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The agreement was signed by Water Minister Motasem Saidan and Director of KfW Amman office Mark Schwiete.
The minister described the agreement as a "pillar" of constructive Jordanian-German cooperation, adding that it is in line with the water strategy that aims at developing water supply and sanitation services and protecting the environment by addressing hotspots and preserving groundwater resources.
Highlighting the water resource management programme, Saidan stressed that it will help reduce demand for freshwater resources by making use of treated water from sewage stations.
