45 COVID deaths, 1,968 local infections recorded Monday

Jordan’s coronavirus death toll stands at 624
AMMAN — Forty-five COVID-19 deaths and 1,968 coronavirus cases, all local infections, were recorded in the Kingdom on Monday, increasing the caseload to 55,055, the government announced.
The reported fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 624, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.
The cases comprised 1,159 infections in Amman, 171 in Irbid, including 14 in Ramtha district, 42 in Aqaba, 154 in Zarqa, 56 in Balqa, 36 in Ajloun, 61 in Jerash, 98 in Karak, 33 in Maan, 25 in Madaba and 117 cases in Mafraq, in addition to 16 cases in Tafileh.
A total of 95 COVID-19 patients were admitted to accredited hospitals on Monday, the statement said, adding that 1,138 cases are receiving treatment in hospitals, while the rest of COVID-19 positive people are under home quarantine.
The statement added that the Health Ministry is currently developing a mechanism to calculate the number of daily recoveries to include the cases at home quarantine in addition to those at accredited hospitals, noting that numbers will be released once they are ready.
A total of 19,159 virus tests were also conducted on Monday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered to 1,729,235.
Amid the growing number of local infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by defence orders, as well as to adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.
The ministry also highlighted the “Aman” (Safety) application for smartphones, which alerts users if they come into contact with a COVID-19 positive person, as well as “Sahtak” (your health) application, which provides users with the latest information and news related to COVID-19, in addition to guidelines and warnings pertaining to the Kingdom’s epidemiological situation.
