AMMAN — Every year, Jordanians celebrate the anniversary of the Great Arab Revolt, Army Day and the anniversary of His Majesty King Abdullah’s coronation as some of the “brightest and most valuable events in Jordanian history”.

The celebration of the anniversary of the Great Arab Revolt and Army Day "carries many important implications", as it is a renewal of Jordanians’ recognition and support of the legitimacy of the Kingdom’s leadership, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, said.

"The celebration is also an affirmation of the commitment of Jordan’s leadership, government and people to the roles and obligations imposed by this legitimacy, as it governs the movement of the Jordanian political system and its relations with political actors both internally and externally," according to Petra.

His Majesty King Abdullah’s keenness to attend to these two occasions "is a Royal assertion of the constants of Jordanian policy towards Arab and Islamic nations’ issues, foremost among which is the Palestinian cause", Petra said.

"This Royal attention is also a clear Royal message to the countries of the world in general and the countries of the region in particular," it added.

The Arab Army as an institution has constituted a cornerstone of the Jordanian state since its inception as it has declared its adherence to carrying the message of the Arab Revolt, "seeking to achieve the elevation of Arab citizens wherever they are and to restore the stature of Arab-Islamic culture", the Jordan News Agency, Petra, said.

"The Arab Army has made great contributions to the development and modernisation of the Kingdom on all levels, civil and military, as it has reached the highest levels of military practice regionally and globally thanks to the continuous Hashemite care it has been receiving since its early inception," Petra said.

"The Arab Army participated in the Arab-Israeli wars, in which it displayed heroism and offered martyrs whose sacrifices remain influential in Palestinian lands today," Petra said.

The Arab Army holds "deep values that cannot be compromised, nor can they at any cost be abandoned, as the army is the guardian of the Kingdom’s land and of the message of the Great Arab Revolt".

The most recent of the Arab Army’s contributions has been its role in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, as it has been one of the most important forces to manage the scene efficiently and competently, led by His Majesty King Abdullah.

"Furthermore, the presence of the Jordan Armed Forces in the field of world peacekeeping has been established as an effective force, as the army has conveyed to the world a bright image of Jordanian soldiers and their ability to interact in a civilised manner with the different cultures and peoples of the world," Petra said.
