AMMAN — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, in a telephone call with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov on Tuesday, stressed that the two-state solution, according to international law and legitimacy resolutions, is the only means to realise a permanent and comprehensive peace in the region.

Safadi and Mladenov reiterated the rejection of any Israeli annexation of occupied Palestinian territories, a step which violates international law and undermines the two-state solution and “all pillars” of the peace process, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

They also reviewed efforts to coordinate an international position to deter Israel from implementing its annexation resolution. Safadi noted that if the resolution is implemented, all opportunities for a lasting and comprehensive peace will be “killed”.

Safadi and the UN official also highlighted the importance of joining efforts to launch direct, serious and effective negotiations to end the conflict according to the two-state solution and relevant international resolutions.
