AMMAN — The National Aid Fund through Sunday evening disbursed a total of JD20 million out of JD27 million to the beneficiaries of the government’s programme designed to support the families of daily wage workers affected by the lockdown imposed to contain the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The Himmat Watan Fund’s donations have contributed in delivering cash assistance to daily wage workers’ families, as the committee tasked with managing the fund has allocated JD27 million to the NAF to implement the government’s daily wage worker support programme, NAF Director General Omar Mashagbeh said on Monday.

The fund will continue to disburse assistance to the daily wage workers who are eligible, he said, noting that the distribution is expected to be completed before Eid Al Fitr, the feast marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, with the number of beneficiaries exceeding 200,000 families in the programme’s first stage, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

A total of 190,000 households have received text messages to inform them of the government assistance, while about 155,000 families have received government cash support, he said.
