AMMAN — Minister of Labour Nidal Bataineh on Thursday said that the private sector continues to “responsibly respond” to Defence Order No. 6 issued last week in terms of paying March salaries and reinstating some employees, as the fifth day of the grace period for such actions ends.

In a statement, Bataineh said that 14,600 workers have filed wage delay-related complaints, noting that the cases of 13,302 workers were resolved and their salaries were paid, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The remaining cases are expected to be resolved by Sunday, which marks the end of the time limit set by the ministry for the payment of March wages.

Bataineh said that, since the beginning of the crisis, a total of 1,389 workers have filed complaints with the ministry after their employers had terminated their contracts. Of this total, 520 were under probation or were employed under fixed-term contracts whereby their employers are not legally required to reinstate them.

In regards to the complaints, 610 dismissed employees have been reinstated to their jobs, while only 259 remaining employees are expected to be reinstated by Sunday, Bataineh noted.
