Himmat Watan virus relief fund gets boost as donations pour in from all sectors

AMMAN — Donations have been pouring in from banks, companies and individuals to the Himmat Watan (A Nation’s Effort) Fund, established under Defence Order No. 4 to support national efforts to curb the coronavirus pandemic and its repercussions.

The Arab Bank donated a total of JD15 million to these efforts, including JD3 million to the Health Ministry and JD12 million to the Himmat Watan Fund, according to a bank statement made available to The Jordan Times.

The Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) donated a total of JD6 million, including JD5 million to support the fund and JD1 million for the Ministry of Health. Muhammad Thneibat, chairman of the company, said that this contribution amounts to 30 per cent of the company’s profits in 2019 and is part of the JPMC’s corporate social responsibility.

Ghayat and Munjid Sukhtian Group on Friday announced that it is increasing its donations to JD1 million to help Jordan’s efforts in its anti-virus fight, including JD500,000 for the Himmat Watan Fund, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The remaining JD500,000 will be donatedin the form of medicines and medical items to help the Health Ministry’s efforts to prevent the spread of the virus.

Abdulkarim Kabariti, head of the committee tasked with administering the Himmat Watan Fund, said on Friday that the Jordan Kuwait Bank had increased its donation to JD2 million, while Hikma Pharmaceuticals, its personnel and CEOs donated a total of JD2.3 million and the Bank of Jordan donated JD1 million, Petra reported.

Kabariti said that the Arab Jordan Investment Bank donated JD1 million and employees at the Safwa Islamic Bank donated JD500,000.

Bustami and Saheb Company donated JD100,000, Arab Orient Insurance extended JD100,000 and Hani Ayyoub and family provided JD100,000, according to Kabariti.

Bank Al Etihad on Saturday announced that it is donating JD1 million to the Himmat Watan Fund, while the Housing Bank increased its donations to the fund to JD3 million, after it had already extendedJD1.5 million. The bank had previously donated JD100,000 to support the Ministry of Health.

Also on Saturday, Fine Hygienic Holding announced a donation of$850,000to support national efforts to eradicate the coronavirus.

Alayyan Group donated JD150,000 to the Himmat Watan fund. The donation is in line with Alayyan Group’s “corporate social responsibility and continued efforts” to support the private sector and the government’s measures in alleviating the coronavirus repercussions on the economy, chairman of the group Khaled Alayyan said in a statement.
