Rain soaks parts of Kingdom; another cold front in store for Friday

AMMAN — A cold front that brought showers and thunderstorms to the Kingdom on Tuesday is expected to continue through Thursday, with a chance of temperatures dipping further, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

On Wednesday, the JMD forecast a significant drop in temperatures, bringing cold weather and intermittent rainfall in the northern and central parts of the Kingdom, with a chance of the rainfall decreasing gradually in the afternoon.

The weather is also forecast to remain cold with a chance of rainfall in the northern and the central regions on Thursday, extending to the eastern and southwestern areas during the night, with westerly to southwesterly moderate to brisk winds, according to the JMD.

On Friday, another cold front is expected to reduce temperatures once more, bringing rainfall in the northern and central regions of the Kingdom. The cold front is expected to extend to the southern areas during the night, turning into heavy showers and thunderstorms, according to the JMD.

The weather department said that snow flurries are forecast to fall on mountainous areas.

The JMD warned of slippery roads and low visibility in mountainous areas due to fog formation and in Badia areas due to dust.

The temperatures in Amman on Wednesday are expected to see a high of 10°C during the day and a low of 6°C at night, while on Thursday temperatures are expected to range between 11°C and 6°C. On Friday, temperatures are forecast to range between 9°C and 4°C.

In Aqaba, temperatures are predicted to range between 22°C and 13°C on Wednesday and between 23°C and 13°C on Thursday. On Friday, mercury levels will stand between 20°C and 13°C, according to the JMD.
