Petra witnessed rise in tourist numbers in February — PDTRA

AMMAN — The number of foreign visitors to Petra in February increased by some 10 per cent to reach 81,406, compared with the same period of 2019, when the rose-red city welcomed 74,413 visitors, the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) announced on Sunday.

Chief Commissioner of PDTRA Suleiman Farajat said that, while the coronavirus outbreak has affected global tourism, Petra has witnessed a “remarkable increase” in terms of number of visitors, stressing that no cases of coronavirus have been reported in the Kingdom so far, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In February, the archaeological city welcomed 74,843 foreign tourists, 6,486 Jordanian and Arab visitors and 77 school students. During the same period in 2019, the number of non-Arab tourists to Petra reached 68,087, Jordanian and Arab visitors totalled 6,291 and the number of students stood at 35.
