AMMAN — Reaffirming "distinguished" ties, Jordan and Morocco on Saturday reiterated their move towards broader cooperation and coordination, according to a Foreign Ministry statement on Sunday.

During a meeting in Amman, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita noted that efforts are ongoing to advance cooperation in the economic, commercial, tourism and education fields.

Safadi emphasised progress in creating frameworks that encourage cooperation in the private sectors, pointing out that a Moroccan economic delegation visited Amman and a Jordanian delegation is scheduled to visit Rabat soon.

Talks also went over the latest regional developments, notably the Palestinian cause, following the announcement of the US administration’s so-called "deal of the century".

In joint press remarks, the two diplomats agreed that the meeting comes at a “sensitive time”, highlighting the two countries' common vision to overcome regional crises and achieve peace.

“We all agree that this stage is critical,” he said, reiterating that Jordan is in constant coordination with Morocco to work with other Arab countries to realise a "lasting, comprehensive and just peace".

The desired peace must be on the basis of a two-state solution, which ensures the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967, lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Talks also touched on other regional challenges, stressing the common vision to achieve regional stability, security and peace.

Bourita said that, in light of the "critical" regional circumstances and the two countries’ mutual stance towards the Palestinian cause, the bilateral meeting was necessary to coordinate measures, share assessments and plan future steps.

"The importance of the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem has always been affirmed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI," the top Moroccan diplomat said.
