Kindergarten education ‘real investment’ for future — Razzaz

AMMAN — From the 2020-2021 scholastic year, all children in the Kingdom will have access to the second stage of kindergarten (KG2), Prime Minister Omar Razzaz said on Tuesday.

During a visit to Um Anas mixed elementary school in Amman's Shafa Badran area, Razzaz said that investing in kindergarten education will “have a big impact” on children, and will contribute to providing jobs for young women, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Studies have shown that students who attend kindergarten develop better performance than their peers who do not enrol in pre-school education, the prime minister noted.

Stressing that kindergarten education is a “real investment” for the future, he called on private institutions, associations and clubs to consider establishing kindergartens, adding that the Education Ministry has facilitated procedures for refurbishing and licensing kindergartens and providing necessary equipment and training.

The pre-school education plan is in line with the government's fourth executive package focused on services, including education, Petra reported. 

Education Minister Tayseer Nueimi, who accompanied the prime minister on his visit, stressed the ministry's focus on kindergarten education, noting that, from this year onwards, all new schools will have a kindergarten.

While announcing the fourth economic incentives package in late December, Razzaz said that one of the biggest challenges in the education sector is kindergarten, adding that the government will cooperate with all concerned agencies to provide kindergarten education throughout the Kingdom.
