House committee grants tax department 60 days to collect due payments

AMMAN — The Lower House Financial Committee on Thursday gave the Sales and Income Tax Department 60 days to collect some JD7 million of due tax payments from companies in the development zones.
MP Khaled Bakkar, head of the panel, said that the committee tasked a representative from the Audit Bureau with developing a detailed report on the exemptions granted to a number of companies that import energy-efficient appliances.
Bakkar said that the committee has referred some cases to the Jordan Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission for having graft suspicions, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
