Experts gather at Dead Sea to explore scope of Artificial Intelligence

AMMAN — Deputising for HRH Crown Prince Hussein, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Muthana Gharaibeh on Tuesday inaugurated the Arab Artificial Intelligence Summit in the Dead Sea area.
The two-day summit, attended by Minister of Culture and Youth Mohammad Abu Rumman and Bahraini Minister of Sports and Youth Ayman Bin Tawfeeq Al Moayed, is witnessing the participation of 1,500 attendees and 60 specialists and experts in various fields of AI, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Other participants are representatives of governments, public and private institutions, academia, businesses and start-ups from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Qatar, the UAE, Tunisia, Morocco, Kuwait and Oman, in addition to 50 speakers representing major international companies such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Samsung, Huawei, IBM and Facebook.
Gharaibeh said that the plan for the summit was proposed in 2018 by the Phi Science Institute (PSI) to contribute to benefitting various economic sectors.
The summit aims at discussing the possibility of establishing a “proper infrastructure” and raising awareness on and encouraging innovation in applying Artificial Intelligence within a wider scope in the Arab region.
PSI Founder and CEO Ahmad Jadallah said that AI contributes to the Internet and applications and plays a role in enhancing aspects of daily life, including transport, which constitutes a “difficult problem” in the Kingdom and the entire region.
Regarding government commissions, healthcare, energy, the educational system, predictability of financial markets and investment administration, Jadallah highlighted the importance of digital transformation, which is one of the main pillars of the summit.
