AMMAN — No Jordanian causalities have been reported in Chile, which witnessed violent protests over the weekend, Head of the Foreign Ministry’s Operations Centre Sufian Qudah said on Monday.
The Kingdom’s embassy in Chile is following up on the Jordanian team dispatched to take part in the Santiago-hosted 2019 World Cadet, Junior and U21 Championships, the official said.
The Foreign Ministry called on Jordanians residing in Santiago to avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution, according to a statement by the ministry.
For assistance, the Embassy of Jordan in Santiago advised its citizens to contact the embassy at 0056932270498 or to directly contact the ministry’s operations centre at 00962795497777 for emergencies.
The ministry also asked Jordanian citizens to follow the warnings and advertisements issued by the Chilean authorities, as well as to abide by Chile’s curfew decision.
Santiago has recently witnessed protests over living costs and social inequality, claiming the lives of 11 people, according to AFP news agency.
