Cabinet okays JD2m GAM compensation for traders hit by floods

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Monday approved the Greater Amman Municipality’s (GAM) decision to grant JD2 million as compensation for damages incurred by downtown traders during last February’s heavy rainfall and flashfloods. A joint minute between the GAM and the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) will set the spending mechanism.
The decision also approved a prospective memorandum of understanding between the GAM and the ACC pertaining to that matter, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.
During a press conference held on Saturday by Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Tareq Hammouri, Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh and ACC President Khalil Hajj Tawfiq, stakeholders noted that a total of JD3 million will be allocated as reimbursement, noting that JD2 million of the total amount will be supplied by the GAM, while the ACC will contribute JD1 million.
