Jordan welcomes Sudan accord

AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Monday welcomed the agreement reached between Sudan’s Transitional Military Council and the Forces of the Declaration of Freedom and Change on the clauses of the constitutional declaration. 

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sufian Qudah said the agreement will play a key role in maintaining Sudan’s security and stability as well as fulfilling the aspirations of its people, a Foreign Ministry statement said. 

Qudah affirmed the Kingdom’s support to the decisions of the Sudanese people towards achieving their hopes for peace, stability and prosperity. 

Sudan's army rulers and protest leaders on Sunday inked the “hard-won” constitutional declaration, paving the way for a promised transition to civilian rule, according to the AFP news agency.

The agreement, signed at a ceremony witnessed by AFP, builds on the landmark July 17 power-sharing deal and provides for a joint civilian-military ruling body to oversee the formation of a transitional civilian government and parliament to govern for a three-year transition period. 

Protest leader Ahmed Rabie and the deputy head of the ruling military council, General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, signed the declaration at the ceremony attended by African Union and Ethiopian mediators, AFP reported.
