AMMAN — The Criminal Court on Tuesday began questioning a man and woman from a neighbouring country for their alleged involvement in killing and burying a man in the Kingdom earlier this month, official sources said.

Police received a complaint from the family of the victim that he had entered the Kingdom on July 22, but the family had lost contact with him, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

"Upon investigating the victim's movements since entering into the Kingdom from a border crossing, our investigations led us to a female suspect," Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

Investigators summoned the suspect and upon questioning her, she reportedly confessed "to helping her friend kill the victim and bury his body in Madaba in a secluded area", according to court documents.

The suspect also informed investigators that the male suspect left the Kingdom shortly after the murder was committed and that he recently re-entered Jordan, according to the police official.

"The second suspect was immediately apprehended and he confessed to stabbing and murdering the victim over old feuds in the Seventh Circle area in Amman," Sartawi added.

The victim's body, which was buried in Madaba, was ordered to be exhumed by Criminal Court Prosecutor Ishaq Abu Awad, a second source told The Jordan Times.

"The forensic physician was also present during the exhuming of the body," the second source added.

The victim's body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy, according to the second official source.

Meanwhile, the two suspects were ordered detained by Abu Awad for 15 days at correctional and rehabilitation centres pending further investigation and questioning, the second source added.
