AMMAN — The Court of Cassation has upheld a December Criminal Court ruling sentencing a 28-year-old man to 20 years in prison

after convicting him of killing his younger brother in Hiteen camp in May 2018.

The court declared the defendant guilty of stabbing his 24-year-old sibling to death following a heated argument on May 18 and handed him the maximum punishment

Court documents said the two lived next to each other and they would often argue about their children who are screaming and playing most of the time.

On the day of the incident, the court maintained, the two brothers argued again over the same matter and “the argument became heated”.

“The defendant went to his house and grabbed a knife and stabbed his brother once in the chest,” according to court papers.

The defendant then grabbed a wooden bar and struck another brother who attempted to interfere and left, court transcripts added.

The victim rushed to his father’s house for help and was taken to hospital but succumbed to his wounds, court transcripts said.

The higher court ruled that the Criminal Court followed the proper procedures when sentencing the defendant, and that he deserved the verdict he received.

The Court of Cassation bench comprises judges Mohammad Ibrahim, Naji Zu’bi, Bassim Mubeidin, Yassin Abdullat and Majed Azab.
