AMMAN — The Royal Film Commission (RFC) and the Public Security Department (PSD) on Wednesday renewed their memorandum of understanding for the “Cinema for All” project, which includes the screening of movies inside a number of Jordan’s rehabilitation centres.
HRH Princess Rym Ali, interim managing director of the RFC, said this project is an illustration of the advanced approach carried out by the Kingdom towards the rehabilitation of inmates in Jordan.
“Jordan stands as an example of that in this regard,” she told attendees during the signing ceremony.
Maj. Gen. Fadel Hmoud, the director of the PSD, said cooperation between the PSD and the RFC has been in place for years, adding that their presence on Wednesday was “just to strengthen this kind of collaboration”.
“This project is a model of the support towards rehabilitating inmates, as Jordan is an exponent in the region in terms of cooperation between inmates at the centres,” he told Princess Rym during the ceremony.
The project aims to provide a cultural and entertaining activity for inmates that enables them to engage with the community outside the walls of the correctional and rehabilitation centres, where similar functions rarely take place. The RFC screens a collection of Jordanian, Arab and international movies that fit the selection criteria of activities inside these centres, according to an RFC statement.
During the previous edition of the “Cinema for All” project, the RFC organised 45 film screenings that covered all the centres in the governorates across the Kingdom for approximately 3,000 people.
The screenings were well received by inmates, who expressed the desire for more similar and regular events, according to the statement.
