AMMAN — The Jordan Customs Department (JCD) on Tuesday said that 114 counterfeit trademarks have been referred to the Intellectual Property Protection Department during the first quarter of this year.
According to a JCD source, clearance procedures for 96 of the aforementioned companies have been concluded, as owners of the original trademarks eschewed taking legal action. The remaining 18 counterfeited trademarks were held in light of legal charges pressed against them.
The most commonly infringed products that enter Jordanian markets are personal care products, clothing, shoes, car parts, mobile chargers, accessories and watches, according to the JCD.
The department relies on the expertise of its cadres to detect counterfeit goods as they were provided with training workshops organised in cooperation with trademark owners.
