AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Friday attended the 92nd Hashemite Scientific Council at the Royal Cultural Centre, the second to be held this year, covering Omar Ibn Al Khattab, one of Prophet Mohammad’s companions and the second caliph, according to a Royal Court statement.

Speakers at the council, held by Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, highlighted the life of Omar Ibn Al Khattab, especially his role in taking Jerusalem and launching the Pact of Omar to protect the rights of Christians in the Holy City.

The speakers also highlighted the Hashemites historical role in Jerusalem and King Abdullah’s role as custodian of Islamic and Christian holy sites in the occupied city, in safeguarding them and supporting the steadfastness of Jerusalemites.

Several senior officials and officers, diplomats and scholars attended the session.
