AMMAN — Jordanian-Iraqi relations are heading towards partnership and integration, especially after the recent signing of a series of agreements between the two countries, Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh said on Wednesday.

During a meeting with President of the Federation of Arab Journalists and President of the Federation of Journalists of Iraq Muayyad Lami, Tarawneh said that the Chamber always encourages cooperation with its Iraqi counterpart, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The speaker added that Amman and Baghdad have always faced joint challenges, chief of which is the war on terrorism, congratulating Iraq for its victory over terrorism.

He added that the future relations seem optimistic in terms of coordination and cooperation in various fields.

Tarawneh stressed that openness in Jordanian-Iraqi ties is a result of the efforts of both leaderships.

It reflects the will of the two peoples, he said, noting that resuming economic cooperation, in light of the agreements between the two countries, highlights the “deep-rooted” relations.

The speaker reiterated Jordan’s unaltered political stances on regional issues, mainly the Palestinian cause.

He reaffirmed the need to arrive at a just solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that guarantees the establishment of a Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and ensures the right of return and compensation for Palestinian refugees.

For his part, Lami said that the Iraqi media supports the Jordanian-Iraqi partnership and all endeavours that can serve the signing of economic cooperation agreements.

He also stressed that the Iraqi media highly appreciates the Jordanian role in the war against terrorism, noting that Iraq now aspires for joint action with various Arab countries to enhance cooperation.
