Huawei to establish 3 ICT academies in Jordan to train 3,000 youth

AMMAN — The ICT Ministry and Huawei Technologies on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in developing the capabilities of young leaders and employees in the Kingdom’s technology sector.

Under the MoU, signed on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the Middle East and North Africa that concluded on Sunday at the Dead Sea, three Huawei academies will be established in cooperation with three public universities to provide advanced ICT training for some 3,000 students and public employees for three years, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

His Majesty King Abdullah and HRH Crown Prince Hussein on Saturday met with Guo Ping, the rotating chairman of Huawei Technologies, over Jordan’s competitive advantages in the ICT sector at the regional level.

Discussions also covered expanding Jordan’s cooperation with Huawei Technologies, with King Abdullah thanking the company for supporting Jordan’s ICT sector by establishing capacity building centres.

Huawei will also start issuing new editions of its annual report about the competitiveness of the ICT sector, the first version of which was issued in 2017, while the company will cooperate with the ICT Ministry in realising items related to e-education, healthcare and smart cities in the 2025 Jordan Vision.

ICT Minister Muthana Gharaibeh said, at the signing ceremony, that the Kingdom’s future focuses on technological developments and youth, noting that the continuation of the strategic partnership with Huawei will enable the ministry to identify the needs of talented youth and train them on smart technologies, as well as providing necessary expertise. 

For his part, the rotating chairman of Huawei Technologies said that the government “has a clear vision” for integrating technology solutions with smart development and successful societies through creating a sustainable group of leaders who enjoy skills and capabilities necessary to go forward with the Kingdom’s development process.
