AMMAN — Motorsport fans were given a treat on Friday when the 2019 season was launched at the Jordan Motorfest in the Dead Sea Service Park, according to the Jordan Motorsport Media Service.
Featuring the opening rounds of the National Speed Test and Drift Championships held back-to-back, a big crowd witnessed some of the fastest and most skilful Jordanian drivers, who did not let them down with a full day and evening of fuel-induced thrills and spills.
The day was launched by the opening round of the Jordan Speed Test Championship which welcomed a bumper entry of 51 drivers. Husam Salem, stormed to victory in an impressive one minute 18.21 seconds, finishing 2.38 seconds ahead of Ihab Al Shurafa, in second, and 2.52 seconds clear of Mohammed Tayseer, in third.
Ameer Nassif and Shaker Jweihan were fourth and fifth respectively. It provided a fast-paced prelude to the Drift event which saw last season’s top two finishers switch positions to set the scene for an absorbing season ahead.
Last year’s Championship runner-up Raafat Haroun took Friday’s opener, closely followed by reigning champion Mohammed Al Foqahaa in second with Mohammed Noufal completing the podium places. Anas Al Helo and Mjahed Baytamoni completed the top five.
The day provided a fitting opener to a record number of events this year organised by Jordan Motorsport. Next up is the opening round of the 4x4 Championship on March 15.
