Forecasters warn of heavy rainfall today

AMMAN — The Kingdom on Wednesday is expected to be affected by a depression accompanied by a very cold air mass, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

The depression is expected to bring snow, heavy rain and a tangible drop in temperatures.

Thunder and hail are forecast for some areas, and the JMD warned of possible flooding in low-lying areas, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Gradual snowfall is forecast for Wednesday night in northern, central and southern mountainous areas. Winds may also reach 50 to 70kmph, with strong gusts of 80kmph expected. The JMD warned winds may raise dust in the Badia region.

The Kingdom will remain under the cold front until Thursday, with weather continuing to be very cold and partly cloudy. Showers are expected on Thursday morning as well.

Stable weather should return around noon and clouds should gradually decrease into the evening. However, the JMD warned of frost formation late on Thursday night — especially in mountainous areas and the Badia region — with winds expected to weaken during the night.

Temperatures in Amman today will hover around 9°C, dropping to 2°C at night, while temperatures in Aqaba should range between 11°C and 22°C.
