Princess Basma attends graduation ceremony of 140 students from Access programme

AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma on Wednesday inaugurated the graduation ceremony of 140 students from the governorates of Ajloun, Tafileh and Mafraq who had completed their second phase of the English Access Microscholarship Programme (Access).

The programme, which was held at the Applied Science Private University, was funded by the US embassy in Amman and implemented by the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD). 

During the ceremony, Princess Basma expressed her pride in the partnership between the US embassy in Jordan and JOHUD for implementing Access. 

She added that the programme aimed to improve English language skills for top students aged 13 to 15 and who come from underprivileged areas. 

US deputy chargé d’affaires and USAID mission director, Jim Barnhart, said that more than 125,000 students had graduated from the programme since it was established in 2004. 

He also expressed his appreciation for Jordanian students who participated in the programme, underscoring the JOHUD partnership, which he said reflected the cooperation between Jordan and the US. 

During the ceremony, graduates presented a dialogue in English, reviewing their experiences in the programme.

At the end of the ceremony, Princess Basma handed certificates of appreciation to teachers and graduates.
