AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor, on Thursday charged a 25-year-old Ugandan domestic helper with manslaughter, over the death of her former employer in Amman a day earlier, official sources said.

The 69-year-old victim was found by one of her relatives with multiple stab wounds on her body at her home in Dahiyat Al Rashid, official sources said.

In her initial testimony to police, the suspect said she had a heated argument with the victim and “ended up stabbing her to death”, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

“The suspect then took her passport, flagged a taxi and asked him to take her to the airport,” a senior judicial source said.

However, the suspect was unable to pay the taxi driver so he called the police, the source told The Jordan Times.

“Police became suspicious after spotting blood on her clothes and called her employer’s son,” according to a judicial source, who was close to the investigation.

The source said the suspect had no “money or any valuables in her possession when she was arrested”.

The Criminal Court prosecutor ordered the suspect, who had been working for the victim for a few months, detained at a women’s correctional facility pending further investigations in the case, according to the source.

The Criminal Court prosecutor is expected to hear testimonies from the victims family members in the coming days.
