AMMAN — Eleven agricultural and cooperative societies are scheduled to take part in an Eco Consult introductory workshop on Tuesday, as part of the second phase of the project to develop hydroponics and job creation in Jordan, which is financed by the Dutch ministry of foreign affairs.

The meeting, which will be held at the Syndicate of Agricultural Engineers, aims to acquaint the participating organisations with the objectives and steps of the project, in addition to meeting with the implementing party and exchange experiences with other community based organisations, a statement by the syndicate said.

The three-phase project will provide more than 500 job opportunities, both permanent and seasonal jobs and will also help more than 640 people to gain additional income.

By focusing on capacity-building and skills development, development of improved systems for protected agriculture, aquaculture and post-harvest practices appropriate to local communities, and the development of improved systems for post-harvest practices, the project seeks to increase employment opportunities in agriculture-related businesses, support local communities to adopt hydroponics and use post-harvest systems to create jobs and improve livelihoods for target communities. It is expected to conclude at the end of 2019.
