No fake certificates used in Jordanian universities, says minister

AMMAN — Responding to concerns over the forging of Jordanian university certificates for Kuwaiti students, Higher Education Ministry Adel Tweisi on Wednesday assured that “no false certificates have penetrated Jordanian universities”, noting that the ministry is following up with the competent authorities to take measures in this regard. 

The remarks came after the ministry received a report from a cultural attaché at the Jordanian Embassy in Kuwait,  which detailed the information published in Kuwaiti media on the exposure to a fraud by a Jordanian citizen in Kuwait.

“The Higher Education Ministry is currently coordinating with the concerned authorities to follow up on this issue and identify the subject responsible for the fraud,” Tweisi told The Jordan Times, noting that “up to this point, only the person’s phone number has been uncovered, but no links to their identity have been found”.

In addition, the ministry will soon start verifying all degrees obtained by Kuwaiti people in Jordan over the past three years, according to the minister. 

In this regard, ministry spokesperson, Mahmoud Khalayleh, noted that the ministry has agreed with the concerned university departments to check the entry and exit dates of non-Jordanian students to compare them with the available data on the Emis system, in an effort to ensure that all students have stayed for the period stipulated in their certificate.

Concerning the convalidation of foreign higher education certificates, Khalayleh ensured that “most non-Jordanian certificates submitted to the ministry require the ratification of the concerned embassy and cultural attaché to the state”.
