Fourth edition of Discover Jordan Riders Rally wrapped up over weekend

AMMAN — Under the patronage of HRH Prince Faisal, the 2017 Discover Jordan Riders Rally which kicked off on Friday, a statement from the Jordan Riders Rally said.
More than 700 motorcycle riders took part in the event, including 500 participants from Palestine, Lebanon, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, the UAE and Egypt.
Tourism Minister Lina Annab attended the start of the fourth edition of the event, which took the contestants and accompanying teams across the Kingdom.
On their first day, the riders headed from Amman to the central areas of Jordan, travelling on the airport road, past Jiza and along the scenic back roads of Madaba to Um Ar-Rassas and then returning via Al Hidan and Mount Nebo, according to the statement.
On the second and last day, they rode north, passing a number of scenic areas, including Jerash, King Talal Dam and Dibeen, returning through Um Rummana.
The rally concluded with a closing ceremony and a performance by popular Jordanian singer Omar Al Abdallat.
According to Rally Director Mustafa Shaaban,“participation this year is the highest it’s been yet, and the Jordan Riders Group has coordinated with all relevant entities to ensure that the riders have a safe and enjoyable experience”.
He added: “This is not just a sporting event; it also helps promote Jordan’s tourism appeal, as the routes we select encompass many of the country’s unique sites and tourism attractions.”
The Discover Jordan Riders Rally targets motor sports fans, as well as families and tourists, taking them on a tour of Jordan's "distinctive landscapes" and major archaeological sites.
The rally was organised by the Jordan Riders group, the Royal Motorcycle Club of Jordan, in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Jordan Tourism Board.
Participants were requested to abide by safety and traffic rules, as part of the RACJ’s participation in the UN's project to curb traffic accidents.
Results of the race are scheduled to be officially announced on Monday, Petra, said.
