New phases of housing for underprivileged approved

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Sunday approved the seventh and eighth phases of the JD1 million renovation project of the homes of underprivileged families living in refugee camps, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The Council of Ministers approved the allocation of JD222,545 for the seventh phase, covering 100 housing units, expected to be completed in July.

Funding will be awarded through the Planning and International Cooperation Ministry's allocations from the 2017 state budget. The funding will also cover the eighth phase, estimated at JD650,000, for the revamping of 70 houses. The government began the project, valued at JD14 million, in 2004.

So far, 2,096 houses have been renovated in 10 camps, Petra reported, adding that the planning ministry is working in cooperation with the Department of Palestinian Affairs.
