King discusses anti-terror drive with US officials

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday met US Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter Daesh terrorist group Brett McGurk over regional and international efforts to combat terrorism.
During the meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace, His Majesty and McGurk also went over the latest developments at the regional level, with focus on Syria and Iraq, according to a Royal Court statement.
King Abdullah also met US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford and discussed with him Jordanian-US ties, especially at the military level.
They discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and efforts to fight terrorism, according to the Royal Court.
Separately, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat met with Dunford and the accompanying delegation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
At the meeting, attended by HRH Prince Feisal, the army chiefs discussed means to enhance cooperation and coordination in the military field.
Also on Thursday, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi discussed the anti-terror drive with McGurk, stressing the Kingdom’s commitment to coordinating related efforts with the international community and the importance of adopting a comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism militarily and ideologically.
McGurk highlighted the importance of the Kingdom’s role in fighting Daesh and updated Safadi on Washington’s stand on this issue.
