AMMAN — Jordan Chamber of Industry President Adnan Abul Ragheb on Saturday said the industry sector pays more than JD1.3 billion in sales tax, which constitutes 30 per cent of its added value.

During a meeting with representatives of the Jordan Customs Department and the Income and Sales Tax Department (ISTD) to discuss the effects of the latest government decisions, Abul Ragheb said the number indicates that the majority of tax revenues comes from the industry sector.

Answering a question about raising taxes on bread, ISTD officials said the 4-16 per cent tax will include only three bread items, which are crispy bread, ginger bread and roasted bread, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
