AMMAN — Police on Saturday said they arrested two men who reportedly robbed a supermarket in the capital earlier this month at gunpoint.
“We arrested two men who confessed to committing the robbery and are looking for two more,” Public Security Department (PSD) Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.
The official told The Jordan Times that “police have a good idea about the identity of the remaining two suspects, and it is a matter of time before they are brought to justice”.
On December 7, four hooded men entered a supermarket in Sweileh, pointed a gun at the owner, beat him up and demanded cash, the police official said.
“The suspects took JD500 and dozens of packs of cigarettes and fled in a vehicle,” Sartawi added.
A special team was formed to investigate the incident in cooperation with experts from the Crime Lab, according to a statement by the PSD.
“Investigators collected evidence from the scene, and at the same time, monitored several suspects known to be specialised in robberies,” the PSD statement said.
Evidence pointed to two repeat offenders who are specialised in armed robbery, and upon arresting and questioning them, the PSD statement added, “they confessed and gave the police details about the identity of their two accomplices.”
