Media watchdog rejects attempts to restrict press coverage of House sessions

By JT - Nov 22,2016 - Last updated at Nov 22,2016

AMMAN — The Centre for Defending Freedom of Journalists (CDFJ) on Tuesday expressed its rejection of the “Lower House’s attempts to restrict the work of journalists”.

CDFJ President Nidal Mansour said the House’s “allegations” of privacy are not in line with the law, especially since the Chamber’s meetings under the Dome are public and journalists are required to cover them, according to a CDFJ statement.

The centre also called on the House to cease any restrictions of media personnel, especially photojournalists. The Lower House on Monday “obstructed the work of some journalists” while they were covering Chamber sessions.
