Bridal Closet at clothing bank aimed at mitigating wedding cost on prospective couples

AMMAN — The Charity Clothing Bank (CCB) has launched a new project to decrease wedding’s financial burdens on Jordanian spouses-to-be, offering essential items for the wedding party.

The Bridal Closet provides the brides- and grooms-to-be with the wedding suit and dress, accessories, shoes, linen and other home requirements, in addition to bags to help the bride move her belongings to her new home, Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) Public Relations Manager Shahd Anani told The Jordan Times.

“The organisation has bought 70 wedding dresses of the latest designs and trends to make brides happy,” said Anani.

Beneficiaries of the National Aid Funds can benefit from this programme, which aims to enhance social solidarity, she noted.

Nour Tartouri, one of the beneficiaries, said that it is a great programme that helps reduce the costs of the wedding.

Activist Dana Hawwari said an initiative like this can bring joy and happiness to marriage hopefuls and would save them money, enabling them to spend more on their essential needs rather than only focusing on the wedding.

CCB provides those items for free, on condition that the dress is returned so another bride can use it. A JD200 deposit should also be paid, to be given back once the dress is returned, according to Anani.

“All the bride has to do is come to the CCB and choose her dress. A tailor will be ready to help her with the fitting,” she added.

Established in 2013 by the JHCO, the clothing bank has distributed over 2.8 million pieces of clothing to about 40,000 underprivileged families so far.

A showroom was opened in Maan, 220km south of Amman, in 2015 through which 50,000 pieces of clothing were distributed to 3,000 families.

Donors can call the bank, located in Mahatta area, on 06/46466446 or drop clothes off at one of the CCB’s boxes located in various companies and malls.
