AMMAN — Jordan and Egypt share common views on political issues and regional developments and are seeking closer economic ties, Egypt’s Ambassador Tarek Adel said on Monday.
During a visit to The Jordan Times, the ambassador said there was great potential to increase the volume of trade between Jordan and Egypt, which is currently estimated at around $1 billion.
To improve the trade exchange, Adel said he was holding meetings with Jordanian business representatives, who will meet with their Egyptian counterparts in January for talks on further scopes of cooperation.
The newly arrived ambassador said he was also seeking closer ties with the Jordanian media to shed light on Egypt’s positions on various issues, including the situation in the region.
Adel said that at the leadership level, Jordan and Egypt see eye-to-eye on bilateral ties and regional developments.
This is evident in the continuous meetings and contacts between His Majesty King Abdullah and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, said the ambassador
It was also evident during the meetings of the Jordanian-Egyptian higher committee in Cairo in August under the co-chairmanship of Prime Minister Hani Mulki and his Egyptian counterpart Sherif Ismail.
The committee, formed in the 1980s, aims to boost relations between the two countries.
Talks in August focused on ways to enhance trade relations and investments.
Adel told The Jordan Times that he would work during his tenure to attract more Egyptian investments to Jordan.
