‘Infiltration attempt from Syria prevented, drugs seized’

By JT - Sep 06,2016 - Last updated at Sep 06,2016

AMMAN — Border Guards on Tuesday morning prevented two people from crossing the Syrian border illegally into the Kingdom, according to a source at the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF).

JAF personnel on the northeastern front applied the rules of engagement followed in such cases, and the two suspects fled into Syrian territories, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, quoted the JAF source as saying.

Upon a search of the area where the suspected infiltrators were present, army personnel found 248 palm-sized sheets of hashish and 306,000 Captagon pills, and sent them to the concerned authorities.

The northern and northeastern border areas have been declared sealed military zones since a terrorist attack in June targeted a forward post set up to help Syrian refugees, killing seven troops.
