Sima Bahous appointed Jordan’s permanent representative to UN

AMMAN — A Royal Decree has been issued appointing Sima Bahous as Jordan’s permanent representative to the UN. 

According to the Official Gazette, posted on the website of the Prime Ministry on Tuesday, the Cabinet appointed Bahous to the post on July 27. 

For four years prior to her new appointment, Bahous was UN assistant secretary general, UNDP assistant administrator and director of the UNDP regional bureau for Arab states. 

According to her profile on the UNDP website, Bahous served as the assistant secretary general and head of the social development sector at the Arab League between 2008 and 2012.

Previously, she served in two ministerial posts in Jordan: as president of the Higher Media Council and as adviser to His Majesty King Abdullah.  She has also worked as head of the Media and Information Division at the Royal Court, the executive director of the King Hussein Foundation and executive director of the Noor Al Hussein Foundation.  She has taught development and communication at Yarmouk University and at Petra University, and was a producer and host with the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation.

In her new role, she replaces Dina Kawar, who was appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Jordan to the US in late June.
