LTRC to develop new public transport routes in governorates

AMMAN — The Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) has started work on an urban transport project in Zarqa, Madaba and Irbid, Director General Marwan Hmoud said on Tuesday.

Hmoud said the project includes the development of new routes to serve residential areas and schools, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Prime Minister Hani Mulki’s recent visit to the LTRC aimed at developing the public transport system, Dmour said, adding that the commission has proposed 20 projects to achieve this.

The official said that the LTRC has the authority to issue licences in any field related to transport and to monitor all transport operators. The commission organises the work of all means of transport in Jordan, and supervises the licensing of 16,000 taxis and 10,000 tourist vehicles, as well as other vehicles like limousines, he added.
