AMMAN — The government’s coordinator on human rights, Basil Tarawneh, on Monday announced measures taken by the Social Development Ministry to boost human rights, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The measures are part of the third comprehensive periodic report to develop human rights, and the government has met with national institutions, commissions and civil society organisation to achieve progress in this area, Tarawneh said.
The ministry reviewed the laws and regulations that govern the work of centres for people with disabilities in order to develop them in accordance with their intended goals, the human rights coordinator said.
The laws and regulations cover the by-laws for the centres as well as the instructions to license centres and institutions for people with mental disabilities, he added.
A circular was issued to all the heads of centres and institutions for people with disabilities inviting them to review all regulations governing the sector and to provide the Social Development Ministry with notes and suggestions to improve the laws, Tarawneh said, adding that two special committees were formed at the ministry to help with the processes of revision and amendment.
The ministry also provides protection to women facing domestic violence, taking care of them and their children within the programmes of family guidance, Tarawneh said, adding that the ministry also established a section to curb child labour.
