AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday congratulated the nation on Eid Al Fitr, which starts Wednesday.

In a Facebook post, His Majesty wrote: “I warmly congratulate all Jordanians as well as the Arab and Islamic nations on Eid Al Fitr. May God accept our good deeds and may this blessed occasion return with peace and prosperity. Eid Mubarak.”

Her Majesty Queen Rania also took to Facebook to express good wishes to the people.

“Wishing you all a Happy Eid surrounded by family and friends,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, King Abdullah on Tuesday received cables of well wishes from several Arab, Muslim and international leaders on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr.

They congratulated His Majesty on the occasion of Eid, and wished the Jordanian people more progress and prosperity, according to a Royal Court statement. King Abdullah received similar cables from senior officials and officers.

HRH Crown Prince Hussein received similar cables from senior officials and officers, the statement added.

Eid Al Fitr starts with the sighting of the new moon at sunset on the preceding day, in accordance with Islamic traditions.

Muslims are not allowed to fast on the Eid day to share the joy of the celebrations with community members.

The holiday, the government has announced, started Tuesday and continues through Friday evening.

Authorities said they were ready to ensure a smooth, trouble-free holiday.
