AMMAN — The Jordan Times distributes on Monday the 15th issue of Al Qibla newspaper, the mouthpiece of the Great Arab Revolt.

In its editorial, by Chief Editor Fuad Khatib, the four-page paper comments on the “official ceremony at the Hashemite Court,” held to celebrate Arab independence.

The bi-weekly highlights a conversation between the representative of the French government and Sharif Hussein Bin Ali, the King of Hejaz and leader of the 1916 revolt.

The French representative congratulated the Sharif on the “blessed independence”, a gesture seen by Khatib as recognition by a world power of the independence from the Turks.

The paper says that the delegations that flocked to congratulate the Hashemite leader constituted a proof that the revolt was on the right track and the separation was justified.

The paper, which stopped printing in 1924, features in the issue at-a-glance news of developments related to the liberation of Mecca, along with other news items, including the issuance of Royal directives to establish Jeddah commerce of chamber.

The edition also features news related to developments in Egypt, France, Greece.

It also includes verses of poetry and economic news related to arrival of cargo to Jeddah and names of vessels coming to the port.

The distribution of Al Qibla (1916-1924) by The Jordan Times and other local dailies is part of celebrations of the centennial of the Great Arab Revolt.
