Road closures announced as Amman celebrates Great Arab Revolt centennial

AMMAN — Multiple road closures and detours are planned across Amman on Friday as Jordan celebrates the centennial of the Great Arab Revolt, authorities announced on Wednesday.

Central Traffic Department Spokesperson Maj. Jalal Rahahleh said several roads would be closed between 3am and 10pm to allow for planned festivities.

The 5km road from Khalda Circle to the King Hussein Business Park will be closed and cars will be diverted to Tlaa Al Ali — on the road to Waha (Jubilee) Circle and Gardens (Wasfi Tal) Street.

“As for vehicles arriving from Fuheis and Mahes, motorists will have to take the road next to the traffic lights leading to Khalda and Tlaa Al Ali,” the official told The Jordan Times.

Vehicles coming from the 8th Circle will be redirected to the street leading to the King Hussein Business Park to reach Mecca Street, he added.

Rahahleh said motorists trying to reach Al Hussein Medical City can take the road from Dabouq that leads to the north gate of the medical compound.

Vehicles from the northern region will be diverted to Sweileh Circle, he added.

This route will direct cars to the right lane of the road, towards the Highway Patrols traffic lights, onto the University (Queen Rania) and Mecca streets, leading to Al Haramein Intersection, the 7th Circle and the Airport Road.

Cars from the Prince Ghazi traffic lights will be redirected to the industrial zone in Sweileh, and vehicles arriving from the area near the Amman Baccalaureate School will be diverted to the Baccalaureate Circle towards the Hummar area.

Airport Road traffic will be rerouted from the 7th Circle to the 6th Circle and Medina Munawara Street.

Vehicles from the 8th Circle and Al Shaab Street will be diverted towards Mecca Street, the official said, adding that motorists would be able to drive in the direction of Al Haramein Circle and Medina Munawara Street.

The traffic department urged residents not to park on main streets, to abide by traffic rules and regulations, and to cooperate with the traffic patrols deployed in the streets.
