AMMAN – Agriculture Ministry on Tuesday said that the fires erupted on Monday in Zarqa, Salt and Jerash damaged 160 pine and oak trees in an area of 82 dunums, the Jordan New Agency, Petra, reported.
Ministry’s Forestry Department Director Eid Zu’bi said on Monday blazes were caused by throwing cigartettes from vehicles and because some farm owners near forests burnt garbage.
He added that the ministry has taken a set of measure to prevent fires in forests in summer, including forming fire fighting teams, activating lookout towers at forests and closing some vulnerable forests.
