Israel arrests Jordanian on way to visit relatives in Hebron

AMMAN – Israeli forces have recently arrested a Jordanian citizen while on his way to Hebron via the King Hussein Bridge, an activist said on Saturday.

Newly married Mohannad Salaimeh, 30, is currently being interrogated at a facility in Petah Tikva, according to the activist, who told The Jordan Times that no further information about the conditions or the reasons behind the arrest of Salaimeh is available.

"That is all the information we have about the incident until now," said Shireen Nafe, a member of the media team supporting Jordanian prisoners in Israel (Fedaa). 

A family member told local news websites that the 30-year-old accountant at a private company crossed into the West Bank on Wednesday to visit relatives in the city of Hebron. 

"He is not member of any political party in Jordan," said the family member. 

Salaimeh's arrest increases the number of Jordanian prisoners and detainees in Israeli jails to 24, according to Fedaa. 

Six of the prisoners are facing life sentences, including Abdullah Barghouthi (67 life sentences), Marae Abu Saeedeh (11 life sentences), Munir Marae (five life sentences) and Hisham Kaabi (four life sentences), in addition to Mohammad Rimawi and Hani Khamaiseh, each of whom is facing a life sentence.
