Jordan reaffirms commitment to hosting refugees

AMMAN — Jordan on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to hosting refugees despite its limited resources.

During a visit to the Jordanian-Emirati Mreijeb Al Fhoud and Azraq camps for Syrian refugees, Interior Minister Mazen Qadi highlighted the Kingdom's ability to deal with refugee influxes in a positive approach.

Mreijeb Al Fhoud camp's director, Col. Sufian Rababaa, presented a briefing on the facility, which started receiving refugees in October 2013, noting that the camp can accommodate some 11,000 people and currently houses around 6,200 refugees, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Rababaa said camp residents receive health, educational, social, security and logistic services presented in cooperation with the United Arab Emirates.

Azraq Refugee Camp Director Col. Atef Omoush said camp departments work round the clock to address with refugees' needs in cooperation with international agencies.
