AMMAN — The Independent Elections Commission (IEC) has a major role to play in restoring public faith in parliamentary elections, Senate President Faisal Fayez said Monday.
At a meeting with IEC President Khaled Kalaldeh, Fayez said the IEC’s commitment to conducting an impartial free election in accordance with the law and international standards will enhance public participation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Kalaldeh also visited Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh to discuss the commission’s readiness to conduct the next parliamentary elections.
The IEC head stressed the importance of citizens’ awareness of the electoral process and its mechanism, and said that the IEC is working on programmes and workshops for that purpose.
