Inaccurate reporting

The information published in the article “Jordan expects invitation to Russia-hosted meeting on Syria” (The Jordan Times, October 2-3, 2015) unfortunately abounds in inaccuracies.

In the statement of Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikhail Bogdanov, quoted by the author of the article, there was no talk about the alleged meeting to be held in Moscow in October to discuss the Syrian crisis.

Bogdanov was talking unofficially about the theoretical opportunity of such a meeting and he listed only some of the possible participants in such an event.

We would like to inform that no meeting is to be held during this month in Moscow, and no invitations were sent.

At the same time, Moscow acts on the premise that all neighbouring countries should take part in international efforts to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

Russia’s Ambassador to Jordan Boris Bolotin gave these explanations to a high-ranking diplomat in the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates right after the publication of Bogdanov’s statement.

We would also like to mention that The Jordan Times journalist turned neither to the ambassador nor to the press attaché of the embassy for their respective comments.
