Important market

An old proverb says: “A little pot is soon hot.”
Statistics in Jordan indicate that 44 per cent of the population are children. Despite being an important segment of the tourism market, children are still a forgotten and ignored group in the tourism industry in the Middle East, in general, and in Jordan, in particular.
The discourse on tourism in the area rarely gives voice to children.
Several studies postulate that children play a significant role in determining families’ consumption choices and can affect their decisions to undertake any type of tourism experience.
Therefore, facilitating the opportunities for tourism activities for children can encourage all members of a family to participate in tourism activities.
Moreover, tourism experiences can enhance children’s knowledge and information, and broaden their life experiences.
Tourism also can deepen the sense of patriotism and strengthen national identity in children.
Schools can contribute to expanding the scope of children’s tourism in Jordan by organising more school trips, encouraging students to engage in different tourism activities and raising their awareness about the importance of tourism activities.
Families should also support children in experiencing different types and activities related to tourism.
Tourism authorities can boost children’s tourism by providing appropriate attractions and experiences for them.
